I don't particularly feel like the personalities of any of the characters have changed, and the novel seems to have remained pretty much the same. I do not feel like changing the characters sexes, from male to female, actually adds anything to the story. As a male, I have never felt some of the prejudices that women today face, and thus my opinions are open to bias based on sex and privilege. I want to disclaim first and foremost, that my negative opinions can only really be taken with a pinch of salt.

I like the thinking behind the novel, and why an all-female cast has been given, and the influence this could potentially have on younger generations who fail to associate themselves with the characters that they read in stories. The story, just like the classic original is exceptional, and a timeless classic that will live throughout the ages. There are plenty of sound effects and musical numbers to keep the reader/listener entertained throughout the novel. I want to start out by saying the production of this audiobook is by far and away, the best I've heard to date. Children of all ages are enchanted by the thought of talking animals that have very human-like adventures together.I have a lot of conflicting opinions about this book, and wish to preface first and foremost, thatI tried to make my opinions objectively, being careful not to critique the politics, as many reviews before me have done. Toad and his prison time, but mostly it is a timeless story of friends who will do anything for each other. It has serious themes at times, such as Mr. The Wind in the Willows is full of fun and adventures for the best friends. Toad’s father was Badger’s best friend and he is disappointed in how Mr. Badger does not want anyone to bother him and has little use for company. His wild ways get him into trouble several times. He likes doing new things and gets obsessed over motor cars and houseboats.

He lives in Toad Hall and is smart and kind, but he is also spoiled and believes he is the most important person in the world. Ratty does not like new things, though, so he and Mole learn some things together. He tells Mole he will show him the world and proudly shows Mole how much fun life along the river can be.

Ratty is fun-loving and has a relaxed attitude about life. While he is wandering along the river, he meets his first friend, Ratty. He discovers the world is a busy, crazy place and it takes a while for him to adapt. Toad and Badger form a tight friendship and have many adventures.Īt the beginning of the book, Mole is busy spring cleaning is home when he suddenly decides he is simply sick of the job and that he wants to see what the big world outside his home is really like. The Wind in the Willows allows every person who has always wished animals could talk to dream a little more.
